Takt Time

What is Takt Time?

Takt Time ( “Takt” meaning rhythm 0r beat in German) is used to determine how often a product should be produced based on the rate of sales to customers.

T = A/D

Where:

T = Takt Time

A = Available work time per shift (normally in seconds per month)

D = Customer demand rate per shift (normally in units per month)

Example:

A = (7.5 Hours per Work Day -> 27000 Seconds per Work Day) x (20 Work Days per Month) = 540000 Work Seconds per Month

D = Customer needs 36000 units per month

Takt = A/D = 540000 / 36000 = 15 Seconds per unit
